Upgrading ICN to SIN on Singapore Airlines, worth it?

Looking for some perspective here. We’ve got a family trip coming up in Korea and will be flying back from Seoul to Singapore. I originally planned to book Business Class for the return, but my dad went ahead and bought Economy tickets first.

When I checked online, the upgrade price to Business is about $1,200 per person. I called Singapore Airlines and the agent quoted around $890 per person for the same upgrade, which surprised me.

Now I’m torn. Is that kind of cash upgrade worth it for this route, or is it better to just stick with Economy? The flight isn’t ultra long, but it’s not short either.

There’s also the mySQupgrade option a few days before departure, but I’ve heard it’s pretty competitive and not guaranteed, especially if the flight is full. I don’t have enough miles to do an award upgrade.

If you’ve done this route or upgraded with cash before, would love to hear your thoughts. This is new territory for me.
