Currently checked into the Tysons Corner Marriott and wow… these “renovations” are rough.
The room feels cold and unfinished. Where there clearly used to be a couch, there’s now a single dining chair and a tiny side table. There’s also this random indoor outdoor rug shoved next to the bed that doesn’t tie anything together. It’s genuinely strange.
They ripped out the carpet and replaced it with vinyl flooring. Spilled some water earlier, wiped it up with a towel, and the towel came back black. That alone was unsettling.
But the worst part is the noise. Carpet and soft furniture actually serve a purpose in hotels. Without them, sound just travels. I can hear the person next door crunching chips and now watching some music competition show. Not blasting it, just normal volume. Yet I can hear every word. It’s after 11:30pm and I’ve got an early meeting.
I could call the front desk, but what’s the point? Move rooms and roll the dice again? Ask someone who isn’t doing anything wrong to be quieter?
These updates clearly weren’t about guest comfort. They feel designed to make rooms easier to clean and cheaper to maintain. Mission accomplished, I guess. Comfort, not so much.
