Posting this as an update in case it helps someone else avoid the same mistake. Royal Caribbean denied our request to join the ship at the first stop in Nassau after we missed embarkation at Port Canaveral.
We were honestly crushed. We even booked refundable flights to Nassau thinking there was a chance it might work, but the emergency travel team shut it down pretty clearly. Good to know they don’t just approve joining at another port, even if it seems easy on paper.
What happened was completely on me. We flew into FLL the night before, had tickets printed, everything. I’d sailed out of FLL before and somehow convinced myself Port Canaveral was the port there. Didn’t realize until noon that the FLL port is Port Everglades and Canaveral is over 3 hours away near Orlando. By then the ship was gone.
Sharing this mostly as a cautionary tale. Double check your port names and locations, even if you think you know them. Huge thanks to everyone who was rooting for us and trying to help in the comments. Really appreciated that support.
