UPDATE: JFK lounge access when flying Alaska First Class (AS)

Following up on a post I made over the weekend about lounge access at JFK Terminal 8.

Originally, my partner was admitted to the AA Admirals Club while flying on an Alaska First Class upgrade (GGU). At the time, I assumed he had used an Alaska lounge pass I gave him.

I flew the same route yesterday on an Alaska First Class U-class ticket. While checking in, I asked the Alaska ticketing agents whether I’d be admitted to the Admirals Club or if I’d need a lounge pass because of the U-class fare. The agent told me that as long as “PRI” appears on the boarding pass, Admirals Club access would be granted. Two other agents nearby confirmed this.

I was skeptical, since this is definitely not Alaska’s general domestic lounge policy.

After clearing TSA, I went straight to the Admirals Club in T8. I showed my boarding pass and was admitted immediately, no lounge pass, no questions asked. Ended up having a drink and some lobster bisque, so no complaints there.

This seems to be a real policy rather than a one-off, possibly because:

It’s a transcontinental route, and

AA may be treating AS First Class (PRI) as equivalent to oneworld partner Flagship access on certain routes.

That said, both Alaska and American reserve the right to change lounge access rules at any time, so I wouldn’t rely on this as guaranteed—but it does appear to be consistently applied right now at JFK.
