Posting an update because it somehow got worse.
Delta came back and offered a $96.12 refund per ticket plus a $100 voucher. That’s it.
We paid just under $1,400 per person one way for First Class back in Feb 2025. Economy at the time was around $500. Instead of refunding the fare difference based on what we actually paid, it looks like they calculated it using day of travel economy prices when the flight was nearly full.
To recap: they involuntarily downgraded my husband and 5 year old from First to Economy so two pilots could deadhead in First. Split up our family, made my husband pay for his meal in Economy, and offered basically nothing after the fact.
I’m planning to escalate internally, file a complaint with my state AG, and possibly go small claims or arbitration. This feels like a clear breach of what we paid for.
Original situation for context:
Paid cash for three First Class seats HNL to SEA. At boarding, told our seats were reassigned due to deadheading pilots. No alternatives. Told to wait 7 business days for compensation.
Has anyone successfully pushed Delta on something like this? What actually worked?
