I just arrived on flight BA12 from Singapore to London and noticed that the route taken was quite different from what I expected. Instead of the usual path through Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Armenia, the flight went via Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Southern Europe, which added roughly an hour, bringing the total flight time to 14 hours and 13 minutes.
Interestingly, BA16, which departed about 40 minutes earlier from Singapore, followed the more typical route and had a shorter flight time of 13 hours and 9 minutes.
Does anyone know why there was such a difference in routing? I was fortunate to be in Club class, but I feel for those traveling in economy.
