I recently booked a work trip through my company portal with United Airlines. I currently do not even have Silver status yet, although I will probably qualify later this year.
About a week before departure, I received an email saying that I had been upgraded to First Class. I also received a receipt showing a “20.00 UGC” charge listed as a “MP PlusPoints Regular Upgrade Fee.” On another segment of the same trip, I currently appear as number two on the upgrade list.
I am confused because I do not remember specifically requesting an upgrade, and I have never previously been upgraded from standard Economy directly to First Class.
I am trying to understand how this upgrade may have happened, what the PlusPoints fee means, and whether I might unknowingly be using a large number of miles or upgrade credits for these upgrades.
