us our original SLC to ORD flight was delayed 90 minutes and we’d miss the connection.
He said he was “helping us out” by rerouting us SLC to LAX to IAD, arriving at 6:30 pm, and told us to run because the flight left in 30 minutes. We trusted him.
While in security I checked the app and saw our original flight wasn’t delayed. At the LAX gate, agents confirmed the 8:20 to ORD was never delayed, but by then it was full and we couldn’t go back. Boarding was closing so we had no choice but to take the LAX flight. Our bags didn’t even make it due to the rushed change.
Customer service later confirmed the ORD flight was never delayed and couldn’t explain why we were rerouted at all. They told us we should ask for compensation.
Feels like the agent lied, possibly to deal with an overbooked flight. What kind of compensation or recourse should we realistically be asking United for?
