Longtime 1K here, but health issues dropped me to Gold for 2026. Took my first flight as Gold recently and noticed my seat had been changed about 6 hours before departure. I always pay for and reserve a specific seat because of those health issues, so this got my attention. I was also a bit uneasy since a couple of my accounts had been hacked recently.
I reached out via chat just to make sure nothing sketchy was going on. They told me my seat was reassigned to accommodate people traveling together. I pointed out that I’d paid for that seat. The response was basically “if you don’t like it, file a complaint.” Chat ended. Not even exaggerating. Lesson reinforced: chat is useless.
I did file feedback anyway, not expecting much. To my surprise, about four hours later I got paged to the service desk at the airport. They actually explained what happened and reassigned me back to my original seat.
So yeah, props to United for making it right. Didn’t expect that outcome at all. Maybe loyalty still counts in some cases. And again, never use chat.
