Was on the tarmac waiting for my own flight when I heard chatter about United 108 declaring a mayday right after takeoff from Dulles. Turns out it was a Boeing 787 headed for Munich that had a left engine failure around 10,000 feet. The pilot called mayday and managed to safely land back at IAD after burning off fuel midair.
Props to the crew for handling it like pros everyone deplaned safely, and no one was hurt. Still, must’ve been terrifying for those onboard. Has anyone ever been on a flight that declared an emergency midair? Would love to hear your experience.
