I had a flight booked from Amritsar to Bangalore via Delhi on an Air India 787-8 Dreamliner. Due to what seemed like low passenger load, the original flight was canceled and I was moved to an earlier departure about an hour ahead.
At the gate, my boarding pass did not scan properly, and the staff informed me that I had been upgraded to Premium Economy. They manually updated my seat on the boarding pass.
I am only an Air India Red tier member, so the upgrade was a pleasant surprise.
The Premium Economy experience was very good. Service was quick, starting with a warm towel before takeoff, and they served a full meal with metal cutlery, even though the flight duration was only about an hour.
