I visited Croatia in July 2025 and recently received an email from my rental car company saying I entered an unauthorized/restricted zone in Dubrovnik. According to them, the authorities are charging around €1,580 per violation.
The issue is that this notice only appeared in April 2026, so it’s been many months and I honestly do not remember the exact situation anymore. From what I recall, we usually parked in garages because parking near the old town was difficult, so I was surprised to hear about this now.
I’m trying to understand what my options are at this point. Has anyone dealt with something similar in Dubrovnik or elsewhere in Croatia? I’ve also heard that if the fine is transferred from the rental company to the driver personally, the amount may be reduced significantly. Is that actually true?
Looking for practical advice or legal experiences from people who have dealt with this situation before.
