I’m traveling to Switzerland later this week and recently purchased the SBB Half Fare Card. I plan to rely mostly on the SBB app for travel between Zurich, Lucerne, Lauterbrunnen, and Zermatt.
I’m a bit confused about the Supersaver ticket options.
Are these discounted fares mainly available because they apply to lower-demand trains or off-peak departures?
Also, what exactly does the Supersaver class upgrade option mean at the bottom of the booking screen? I currently have first class selected, but the message says it is only valid for 2nd class tickets on this specific train. Does that mean I would need to buy a 2nd class ticket first and then apply the upgrade to reach first class at the reduced price?
