UK trip with a passport under 6 months left… probably fine, but stressful

This comes up a lot and it’s confusing. For the UK, there’s no 6 month validity rule like Schengen. Your passport just needs to be valid for the length of your stay. So flying in April with a passport expiring in September is technically OK, especially as a Canadian.

The ETA being tied to the passport number makes it more annoying, but that part is normal. If you renew, you’d just have to apply for a new ETA anyway.

The bigger risk isn’t UK immigration, it’s the airline agent who doesn’t know the rules and freaks out over the “less than 6 months” thing. Most are fine, but that’s where people sometimes get stuck.

If it were me, I’d still travel, just bring proof of the UK entry rules in case someone questions it. Not ideal, but plenty of people have done this without issues.
