If you were flying in or out of the UK this week, chances are your travel plans got shaken up. A major air traffic control glitch at NATS, halted flights nationwide, with Ryanair calling it utterly unacceptable after over four hours of delays and diversions. Heathrow, Gatwick, Edinburgh, pretty much every major airport was impacted before things returned to normal.
This isn’t the first NATS issue either. I remember the 2023 summer outage that left hundreds of thousands stranded. Makes me wonder: with such a critical system, how does this keep happening? Has anyone had a flight rerouted or canceled because of one of these ATC malfunctions?
