Uber Left With My Partner’s Luggage at 3AM

My partner had an early flight this morning and scheduled an Uber for 3:15am. She put her luggage in the trunk, said goodbye, and the car pulled away… without her in it. Within 30 seconds I heard yelling outside, she was literally standing in the street while the driver just kept going with her bags.


She chased the car but he didn’t stop.


Trying to get in contact with the driver at 3am while half-asleep was a nightmare. Uber support wasn’t helpful at all; we couldn’t figure out how to trigger the “left item behind” flow because technically she never even took the ride. I finally managed to call the driver directly, but since we live close to the airport, he had already arrived and completed the ride, which meant we lost tracking and messaging access entirely.


Thankfully, he did bring the luggage back quickly but the whole situation was insane. And despite the fact that he drove off with her bags without her, Uber still charged her the $20 lost item fee. We eventually got the fare refunded, but we’re still stuck with the lost item charge for a ride she didn’t even take.


Has anyone else had this happen? This feels like negligence at best and borderline theft at worst, and Uber support acted like it was just a normal lost item situation.
