Had a weird situation with Turkish and not sure what I’m actually entitled to here.
Original ticket was Alexandria to DC via Istanbul. About 7 hours before departure, I got a cancellation email saying “force majeure.” When I called, they rebooked me on a flight leaving from Cairo instead, departing in about 6 hours.
Problem is Alexandria to Cairo takes around 3 hours, so I had to scramble and pay $145 for last minute transport just to make the new flight. That Cairo flight got me to Istanbul in time to catch the original IST to DC leg, but I also lost the seat I had originally paid for.
Now when I try to submit a refund or compensation request, the system says there was no disruption and won’t let me proceed. I’m guessing because the rebooked flight itself doesn’t show as canceled.
Has anyone dealt with something like this on Turkish? Do they reimburse ground transport when they move you to a different departure city, or am I just out of luck? Any tips on how to actually get a claim through their system would be appreciated.
