My wife and I recently flew with Turkish Airlines from Seattle to Istanbul (continuing onward to Budapest) and decided to purchase the Extra Seat upgrade during booking. This add-on gave us an empty middle seat for each leg of the journey.
Overall, the upgrade was worth it since both flights were full and having extra space made the long haul significantly more comfortable. However, there are a few important details to be aware of. The extra seat does not automatically assign adjacent seating for both passengers, so you still need to manually select seats to ensure you are sitting together.
There were also some inconsistencies with the booking experience, including unclear information about baggage allowances and occasional issues where the extra seat did not appear correctly in the app. Additionally, it seems that in case of overbooking, the airline may prioritize selling the seat and refund the upgrade instead, so it may not be fully guaranteed.
Despite these concerns, the overall value was good, especially compared to other airlines, and the included baggage allowance made the fare competitive. One more note, Istanbul Airport is extremely large, so allow extra time for walking between gates.
