Has anyone recently experienced Turkish Airlines denying boarding over a visa being considered “invalid”?
My mother was traveling from Istanbul to Canada on a Canadian immigrant visa. The visa application was originally tied to her old passport, but before the visa was issued we renewed her passport. She traveled with the new valid passport and did not have the old passport with her at check-in.
Everyone in her travel group followed the same process and was allowed to board, but she was the only one denied boarding at Istanbul airport. Turkish Airlines reportedly told her the visa was invalid because of the passport change.
We are now trying to understand whether this is a known issue with airline document checks, especially when passports are renewed after visa issuance.
Has anyone dealt with something similar recently? Is there any way to challenge this decision or get clarification from the airline, and would another airline have handled this differently in the same situation?
Any advice would be appreciated.
