So I just read Matthew Klint’s piece about TSA’s facial recognition at security checkpoints, and it got me thinking are we really giving up anything new here, or has the privacy ship already sailed?
Senator Jeff Merkley’s been making noise about how you can opt out and apparently once had a TSA agent try to tell him he couldn’t. TSA swears they delete your photo immediately, but he’s worried about databases being used against citizens someday.
Personally, I’m in the get me through security as fast as possible camp. Shoes on, laptop in the bag, quick scan, and I’m gone. But I get why some folks push back for them, it’s not about whether the gov’t already has your info, it’s about exercising the right to say no.
What about you? Are you happy to use it for convenience, or do you always opt out on principle?
