TSA agent had political tattoos on full display, normal?

Had an odd experience at security recently. The TSA officer checking my passport had visible forearm tattoos reading things like “Trigger Warning!”, “Straight Pride”, and “All Lives Matter” with a cross. Other tattoos were taped over.

Other officers nearby were in long sleeves, so it felt like this person’s were deliberately visible. I raised it with the checkpoint manager who admitted they’d had other complaints and that “worse” tattoos had to be taped up. I later emailed TSA and they replied that the employee didn’t have to cover the ones I saw.

I get that tattoos are personal expression, but it felt really uncomfortable handing my documents to someone displaying those particular phrases in uniform. Has anyone else run into this? Do TSA officers really not have to cover political tattoos?
