Been trying to lock in business class to Tokyo for late May/early June, and ANA/JAL space is basically a ghost town unless you book last minute, which I can’t do.
I did find JAL seats for 105k one way, so 420k round trip for two of us. The problem is actually getting 420k JAL miles. I ended up stitching together this weird mix:
Bilt 92k to JAL
CapOne 191k to 143k JAL
Marriott 144k to 58k JAL
Amex 238k with the 30% bonus to 309k Marriott to 128k JAL
That gets me to around 421k JAL miles. It works, but it feels… messy. I’ve got plenty of Amex and Chase points, so burning some isn’t the issue. Just not sure if this whole transfer chain is totally nuts or actually fine for locking in JAL business
