Last time I flew ORD → FRA → CDG with Lufthansa, they sent an email the night before offering free checked bags because the flight was full. I normally travel carry-on only, but I accepted and it was actually pretty nice boarding last with no overhead bin stress.
Now I’m flying CDG → MUC → ORD in a few days and thinking about doing the same thing, but I don’t really want to pay the $75 checked bag fee.
So I’m wondering how often Lufthansa actually sends those free bag offers when flights are full. Is it fairly common or was I just lucky that time?
Also if I wait and don’t get the offer, can I still add a checked bag during check-in at the airport, or would that be too late?
