Trump Orders Homeless Out of Washington DC, Mayor Pushes Back

I was in DC this weekend and could feel the tension in the air after President Trump’s statement that all homeless people must move out immediately from the capital. He says they’ll be offered housing far from the Capital as part of a broader push to fight crime and beautify the city. The mayor, Muriel Bowser, isn’t having it she insists violent crime is at a 30-year low and called the White House’s Baghdad comparison false.

It’s a complicated situation. Walking downtown, I saw the same tent encampments that have been here for years, but also tourists, families, and business as usual. With Trump deploying hundreds of federal agents and planning a full press conference tomorrow, it feels like big changes could be coming fast.

Curious to hear what locals and frequent visitors think this will mean for the city’s future.
