Trivago booked me a hotel… and sent me to a hostel pod instead

Booked what I thought was a normal hotel room in London, 189 pounds a night, confirmation clearly showed Zedwell Piccadilly and a standard room. Show up and the hotel can’t find my reservation at all. Turns out Trivago actually booked me into their hostel location down the street with capsule pods, shared bathrooms, the whole thing.

Trivago first said they didn’t know why, then claimed it was some “run of room” booking that could place me anywhere. But they never booked the hotel to begin with, just the hostel. And when I pushed back, they basically ghosted me.

To make it worse, the hostel rate was 40–50 a night. I paid 189. Trivago pocketed like 75 percent of it.

I’m now going through my credit card for a chargeback, but not really sure who else to complain to. Just wanted to put this out there as a warning — some of these third-party sites are sketchier than people think.
