Visited Half Moon Cay recently and had a great morning at the beach, spending time in the water around the “avocado section” (area 6). After lunch, we went back into the sea and both my partner and I started feeling itching under our swimwear while in the water.
After returning to the ship and showering, we noticed multiple red spots on areas covered by swim clothing. After looking into it, we suspect it was caused by sea lice, which are actually jellyfish larvae that can get trapped under swimwear and sting.
Our child later developed similar marks and was temporarily removed from Camp Ocean for medical evaluation. The ship doctor was cautious about labeling it directly as sea lice, instead referring generally to “something in the water,” but later seemed to agree it was likely jellyfish larvae-related. The child was cleared to return the next day.

If you feel itching while swimming, it may be best to exit the water early and rinse off. Parents should also be aware that children showing widespread stings may be temporarily restricted from kids’ programs until cleared by medical staff.
