I booked a hotel in Rotterdam for two people for two nights, including breakfast, through Booking.com. The total price was around €120, and the reservation was confirmed.
Recently, the hotel contacted me through the Booking.com chat stating there had been a “security breach” and that the price I booked was incorrect. They claim the rate was an obvious mistake and does not reflect their actual pricing.
They asked me to cancel the reservation, which I refused. After that, they offered to honor the booking only if I pay an additional €90. Otherwise, they said they would wait for Booking.com to cancel it.
They also mentioned they had already contacted Booking.com support regarding the issue and were waiting for a response. I have now also reached out to Booking.com support and am waiting for clarification.
I am unsure whether a hotel is allowed to request additional payment after confirmation, whether this qualifies as a pricing error they can cancel, and how Booking.com typically handles such disputes. I am also debating whether to accept the extra charge or wait for a resolution.
