I have some basic knowledge of Japanese and I am trying to understand correct usage of certain phrases while traveling in Japan.
If I buy a ticket from a ramen shop vending machine, what should I say when handing it to the staff? Would “onegaishimasu” be appropriate in that situation?
I also know that “itadakimasu” is typically said before starting a meal. Is this said to others at the table, or is it still used when eating alone?
Additionally, I am unsure about the correct word for “tourist.” I believe “kankoukyaku” is correct, but it feels a bit long in conversation. Are shorter alternatives like “tabihito” or “ryokyaku” acceptable in everyday usage?
