Travel insurance might not cover disruptions caused by war

Saw an interesting reminder about travel insurance after the recent flight disruptions affecting routes through the Middle East.

Some travelers stranded in Europe on the way to Asia after Qatar Airways cancellations found out their travel insurance wouldn’t cover the extra hotel nights or meals. Since the disruption was tied to military action, it falls under exclusions in many standard policies.

Apparently a lot of travel insurance plans specifically exclude events related to war or military conflict. That means even if flights are cancelled or heavily delayed because of it, compensation might not apply.

There are some exceptions though depending on the policy. In certain cases, delays that happen as a knock-on effect might still be covered under travel delay benefits.
