Posting this as a warning because I wish someone had smacked me with this advice earlier. I’ve been saving Amex points for about 5 years for a long haul trip. Did a ton of research using point.me, checked Qatar and JetBlue directly, and found award space to Sri Lanka. Decided to go through JetBlue since I’m US based. Huge mistake.
Transferred 350k points to TrueBlue and then couldn’t actually book the flight. The site kept kicking me back to the start. After hours on the phone across multiple days, several reps admitted the award space was real but JetBlue’s site was broken. IT tickets were open. Other people were calling with the same issue.
Problem is, once the points were transferred, they were stuck. No reversal. No voucher. No workaround. Nothing. JetBlue basically said sorry and that was it.
I was lucky enough to have leftover Amex points to book the outbound, but now I have no way home unless I pay $4 to $7k cash for business class. I have a medical condition that makes economy impossible on a flight that long, which is why I saved for lie flat in the first place.
Now I’m also stuck with 300k plus JetBlue points that are incredibly hard to use. After days of searching, their booking portal is honestly awful.
Learn from my mistake. Do not transfer points to JetBlue unless the ticket is literally bookable and ticketed in front of you. Once those points are gone, you’re on your own.
