We planned a trip through Italy using high-speed trains between Florence, the Amalfi Coast, and Rome, and expected some delays based on what we had read beforehand.
However, in practice, every train we took ended up being delayed, and in one case the train even departed about three hours earlier than scheduled without any clear warning or updates on the app.
Since it was just my partner and me, it wasn’t a major issue and we intentionally kept our itinerary flexible. But I would strongly advise against scheduling important activities or tight connections (like flights) on the same day as train travel.
While a private driver might avoid these issues, we ultimately decided it wasn’t worth the extra cost for our trip, though it might be for others depending on budget and priorities.
