I was shocked to read about the recent incident south of Sierra Brooks a woman found dead at a remote campsite with no amenities, and an “incoherent” man arrested nearby. Authorities are calling it a homicide and have taken 36-year-old Jesse James Dallmann into custody on suspicion of murder and domestic violence.
As someone who camps often in rural California, this hits close to home. We think of these spaces as peaceful escapes, but incidents like this are a stark reminder that safety should never be taken for granted. I’d like to hear how other campers approach safety when staying in isolated sites.
