We were cruising through western Minnesota this weekend, just planning a chill loop through places like Montevideo and Lac qui Parle. Weather was hot, humid, but didn’t seem that bad until suddenly our phones blew up with tornado warnings.
We ended up pulling off near a rest stop west of Granite Falls when the sky turned that weird greenish-black. Sirens going off, radio buzzing, wind cranking up fast. Not gonna lie, it got intense. They said hail could hit two inches, and at one point I really thought we were going to see a funnel cloud form.
Glad it passed without confirmed touchdowns, but man, that part of the state is no joke when it comes to summer storms. Respect to the locals who know how to ride these out calmly meanwhile, we were nervously refreshing radar apps every 30 seconds.
Anyone else get caught out in it? Or locals with tips on safer spots to pull over during this kind of thing?
