I’d always heard locals hype up Torch Lake, but wow I finally get why it’s called the "Caribbean of the North." That water is unreal. Clear, turquoise, shallow sandbars you can just wade out into it doesn’t feel like Michigan at all. Boaters were out, people were snorkeling, some were just floating with a drink in hand. Laid-back but lively in the best way.
I was surprised how deep it gets in parts over 300 feet! considering how chill the shoreline is. And yeah, access is a little limited, so you really do want to get there early if you’re bringing a boat or trying to park close.
Definitely a hidden Midwest gem if you’re into lakes that don’t look like lakes. Anyone know if it gets too cold to swim by early September?
