This data highlights the top five routes from Seattle (SEA), measured by passengers daily each way (PDEW), that are currently not served by Alaska Airlines.
Overall, Alaska already covers most of the obvious high-demand routes, and many of these remaining markets are relatively small. Outside of Charlotte (CLT), most would likely not be large enough to support consistent nonstop service, as aircraft would risk low load factors even if all demand were captured.
The SEA to CLT market is the most interesting case due to its size and its strategic importance. CLT is a major American Airlines hub, and all West Coast routes to CLT are currently dominated by AA with no real competition. Even United does not operate SFO to CLT, despite strong corporate demand.
That said, SEA to CLT already has strong service from American Airlines, ranging from about three daily flights in winter to five daily in summer, with four daily flights being typical.
Charlotte itself is also a fast-growing market, and combined with Alaska’s financial partnerships and potential strategic interests, it could become a more realistic future addition to the network in the coming years.
