I’m a drone pilot and was flying with my drone in my carry-on (since lithium-ion batteries must be kept in the cabin per aviation safety rules).
At the gate, the agent tried the usual “we need to check your carry-on.” I mentioned that I had large batteries inside, and they immediately allowed me to keep the bag with me. Suddenly, space on board wasn’t an issue.
Since items like power banks and lithium batteries are common and restricted from checked baggage, this can sometimes make a difference in these situations.
