Tip at Hilton in Italy – automatic gratuity on bill

I recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Rome Claridge and noticed that when settling the bill at reception, there was a €15 tip automatically added by default. I was asked whether I wanted to keep it or have it removed from the invoice.

I found this a bit surprising and chose to remove it, but it made me wonder if this kind of automatic tipping is becoming more common in Europe, even though service charges are typically already included in the cost of the stay.

I’m curious whether others have experienced similar situations and if this is now a standard practice or just specific to certain hotels or locations.
