TIFU by choosing KFC over Turkish food and ending up in a national news story

Not today but two days ago. My partner and I were exhausted after hosting family all week, so we decided to get takeaway. She wanted Turkish, but the order came to £70+. I said KFC would be way cheaper, which turned out to be a big mistake.

I picked up the food, ate a bit in the car park, and started driving home. About five minutes later, an oncoming car pulled into my lane to overtake someone. I thought, “They won’t just drive into me… right?” Then there was a crunch, spinning, and shock. My car was wrecked with the front end destroyed and the wheel hanging off, but I somehow walked away unharmed.

I checked the other driver, who said he was fine. Then people started shouting that he had a gun. It turned out he was armed, threatened another driver, fled, and was later shot by police.

I spent the next four hours giving statements, then £400 on a rental car, £150 on a new car seat, £10
