Had a flight cancelled because the plane’s door literally wouldn’t shut. Missed a prepaid hotel night at my destination. Alaska rebooked me for the next day but denied reimbursement since they don’t cover missed events from cancellations.
Figured no problem, I’ll use Amex Platinum trip interruption coverage. Filed the claim with the airline denial letter… and Amex denied it too. Apparently maintenance related cancellations don’t qualify under their covered reasons.
I always assumed mechanical issues were exactly the kind of thing this insurance was for, but nope. Just a heads up for anyone who relies on the Platinum coverage as a safety net. It’s more limited than most people think.
