Quick reminder about a scam that keeps popping up. I got a WhatsApp and SMS about a hotel I’d booked, asking me to “verify” my reservation or risk cancellation. Looked very legit. No spelling errors, friendly tone, and they even had my real reservation number.
The message claimed no payment would be charged, just a quick verification, with a link that looked almost right but wasn’t. That’s the tell. I didn’t click anything and contacted the hotel directly instead. They confirmed this has been happening a lot.
This isn’t new and it’s not limited to hotels. Airline reservations are getting hit too. Hotel and airline systems get compromised, scammers get booking details, and then they try to trick you into handing over card info.
If you get messages like this, don’t reply and don’t click links. Always check directly in the booking app or contact the hotel or airline through official channels. Annoying, but seems like this is the new normal.
