I’ve been to a few of these spots, Block Island and Door County especially, and I’ve always wondered why they weren’t more popular. Turns out, that underrated vibe is exactly what’s making them blow up now. There’s just something refreshing about skipping the same old crowded spots and getting a slower, more relaxed version of a vacation. I’m eyeing Sawtooth next. It looks unreal if you’re into lakes and real-deal wilderness without the Yosemite mob.
Honestly, with TikTok and IG helping put these places on the map, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these quiet spots don’t stay that way for long. Still, love seeing attention shift toward more sustainable, local-first tourism. And if you’ve never done Chattanooga or St. Simons, both are way better than the big tourist hubs they’re near. Curious, anyone here planning to swap their usual summer destination for one of these?
