The unfriendly giant behind me in economy

Was on a 9 hour United flight in economy and reclined my seat normally. Not slammed, just the standard recline. Guy behind me was huge, like 6'6", and immediately yelled that I was invading his space. After that he kept tapping my shoulder asking me to put the seat up.

He eventually called a flight attendant who told him I was allowed to recline. That didn’t stop it. He and his wife started arguing about switching seats since she was shorter, but he didn’t want to give up his comfort either. At one point he told me if I wanted to lie down I should’ve booked first class.

I get that economy is brutal if you’re tall, but the yelling, tapping, and comments made it pretty uncomfortable.

Honestly curious where people land on this now. Is reclining in economy bad etiquette these days, or is this on airlines to manage better with seat assignments, exit rows, or earlier crew intervention on long flights?
