I recently completed a three-night stay at The Livingston, a JdV by Hyatt property in Downtown Brooklyn, and it exceeded my expectations. For anyone seeking a comfortable New York City base with quick access to Manhattan, this hotel is well worth considering.
One of its biggest strengths is the location. Situated near Nevins Street and several major subway lines, getting around Brooklyn and Manhattan was effortless. Popular areas such as Barclays Center, BAM, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, and Boerum Hill were all within easy reach, either by foot or transit. During one afternoon, we even made it from the hotel to a Midtown theater in under 30 minutes after securing last-minute tickets.
The hotel is newly built and feels modern, clean, and well-maintained. The 22-story property features rooftop viewing areas with impressive city views, while the outdoor courtyard offers a quiet spot to relax away from busy streets.
As a Hyatt Globalist member, I received excellent recognition. Early check-in and late checkout were accommodated without issue, and my Points + Cash booking was upgraded to a suite before arrival. A special mention goes to Edwin at the front desk, whose welcoming attitude made a great first impression.
Our suite on the 22nd floor featured a spacious living area, separate bedroom, large private terrace, and sweeping skyline views. Amenities included wireless charging, a Nespresso machine, dual-zone climate controls, and a mini fridge. The layout felt far more spacious and practical than many typical New York hotel rooms.
My main criticism concerns the bathrooms. While visually attractive, they lack sufficient storage space, shelving, hooks, and towel placement, making longer stays slightly less convenient.
Breakfast at The Grove Lantern was another highlight. The atmosphere was inviting, the coffee was excellent, and the staff consistently delivered exceptional service. Tyrone and Rachel made each morning enjoyable with their friendly personalities and local dining recommendations.
Overall, The Livingston delivers a modern, comfortable experience in a vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood while maintaining easy access to Manhattan. It offers a refreshing alternative to staying in more tourist-heavy parts of the city, and I would happily return on a future visit.
