The dreaded “tight connections” announcement never works

Arrived from SEA yesterday about 15 minutes late thanks to the usual Seattle ground delays. FA gets on and asks anyone with a “tight connection” to raise their hand. No definition of what that means, so a few hands go up, then more, then basically all of economy.

Then comes the request for everyone else to stay seated. We hit the gate and immediately the aisle clogs as the back half of the plane tries to rush the door. Once the door finally opens, people from the back start pushing their way out, claiming they have tight connections. Business class stands up after a bunch of them pass. At that point it’s chaos and everyone just deplanes normally.

I’m all for letting people with real connections go first, but this honor system never works. A lot of people pay for forward seats specifically to get off faster. Either call out the actual passengers who need to run, or don’t do the announcement at all and just do normal deboarding.
