I had an incredibly frustrating experience on a recent SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Pune and wanted to share it as a warning for anyone considering booking with the airline.
The problems started when the original flight appeared to be overbooked. Passengers were then reassigned to another flight that was scheduled to depart only minutes later. That replacement flight was already running several hours behind schedule, with repeated announcements suggesting delays related to aircraft fueling and operational issues.
After waiting for hours, boarding finally began, but the ordeal was far from over. Once onboard, passengers were left sitting in a packed aircraft with no air conditioning for an extended period. The cabin became increasingly uncomfortable, especially for families traveling with children. Adding to the chaos, the aircraft doors could not be opened because the necessary ground equipment was unavailable.
Several hours later, airline staff boarded the aircraft to verify cabin baggage after some passengers had decided to leave the flight. The process was reportedly required to ensure no unattended luggage remained onboard.
Throughout the delay, the cabin crew faced considerable frustration from passengers and did their best to manage the situation. However, communication regarding the cause of the delays remained limited, leaving many travelers uncertain about what was happening or when the flight would eventually depart.
With alternative flights priced several times higher than normal, many passengers had little choice but to continue waiting. The entire experience raised concerns about operational reliability, and at that point the priority became ensuring that any issues were resolved properly rather than rushing the flight into service.
Overall, it was one of the most stressful travel experiences I've encountered and has made me think twice about booking with SpiceJet again.
