Had a frustrating experience with a taxi at the official queue at Roma Termini today.
My hotel was only about 4–5 blocks away but I had heavy luggage so I took a taxi. When we arrived, I tried to pay with Apple Pay and the driver told me they only accept cash. I’m pretty sure taxis in Italy are legally required to accept cards.
I had to go find an ATM nearby, which already cost me extra in withdrawal and conversion fees.
When I came back with cash, the driver said the fare was €25 for a trip that was literally a few blocks. I’ve taken longer rides in Rome before that cost much less.
I gave him €20 and told him that’s all I had. He eventually took it and left.
Just a heads up for anyone arriving at Termini. Even the taxis from the official queue can try this.
