I’ve been searching for accommodation in Rome recently and kept seeing the same property repeatedly recommended on Booking.com.
At first glance, the listing seemed suspicious because the price was unusually low. Earlier reviews referenced a different location in Abruzzo rather than Rome, and mentioned room types that no longer match the current listing. Newer reviews are mostly vague and overly positive, without specific details about the property.
There also appears to be an unusually high number of recent reviews, which does not seem realistic for a single apartment in a short timeframe. This raises concerns that the original listing may have been compromised or repurposed.
In addition, some recent reviews explicitly claim the listing is a scam, with reports of guests arriving at the address and finding no valid accommodation. One review even described multiple affected travelers arriving at the same location.
Despite these concerns, the listing continues to appear as a featured or promoted result in search rankings, which is worrying. It feels difficult for users to distinguish legitimate listings from potentially fraudulent ones without extensive manual verification of reviews.
I’m concerned about how such listings can remain visible and promoted despite multiple warning signs.
