Summer in DC really is what you make it, here’s what worked for us

We just got back from a long July weekend in DC, and despite the heat yeah, it’s no joke, we had a blast. Fireworks on the National Mall were just as epic as promised, especially with a pre-show dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab fried chicken there was unexpectedly amazing. We stayed at The Riggs this time, partly for the location, but also because that glass-ceilinged atrium across at the Portrait Gallery is the ultimate cool-down zone when the sun’s brutal.

Also wandered around Georgetown more than we planned. Those little canal-side homes and antique shops especially Pillar & Post made it feel like a totally different city. It’s one of those trips where you forget how much walking you’ve done until you’re already back at the hotel lobby bar ordering a second round.

Anyone else have strong opinions on Millie’s brunch vs. Kafe Leopold?
