I’ve been working front desk for over two years and seriously there’s no real benefit to booking through Expedia, Booking, Hotels.com, or any of those sites. They hide fees, so you usually end up paying the same (or more) than if you booked direct.
If you’re into Bonvoy perks, it’s even worse. Most hotels won’t honor elite status or give you points when it’s a third-party booking. Even if you add your number later, the system flags the rate code and it doesn’t count.
And when things go wrong? Those third-party agents are either impossible to reach or totally unhelpful. Just book direct it makes everyone’s life easier.
