I have a Star Alliance Gold status through United Airlines, and my ticket is linked to my Aeroplan number when flying through Air Canada.
In the past, I have been able to access the Maple Leaf Lounge at Toronto Pearson (YYZ) by showing my boarding pass and Star Alliance Gold card, with staff scanning both without issue.
However, during a recent visit, lounge staff refused entry unless my boarding pass showed my United MileagePlus number instead of Aeroplan. They insisted that my frequent flyer number needed to match the airline program that grants the status.
A supervisor was unavailable at the time, so I was not able to resolve it and ended up leaving for another lounge.
My understanding is that Star Alliance Gold access should be granted either via the status marker on the boarding pass or by presenting both the ticket and the status card. I am trying to understand why this entry method was rejected and how to ensure it works consistently in the future.
